Our products are in bisque form; they become ready for use after glazing and firing.
Painting and Glazing
Our Refsan ready-to-use underglaze paints can be safely applied on both tile and ceramic bisque. Glazing enhances both the appearance and durability of the product.
Ceramic Products: When glazing ceramic bisque items, ceramic glazes must be used. Ceramic glazes typically mature between 1040°C and 1050°C, giving a smooth surface and increasing durability.
Tile Products: When glazing tile bisque items, tile glazes must be used. Tile glazes are fired at around 900°C - 920°C, providing a fine and elegant finish.
Firing
Our products are carefully fired at 1050°C to achieve bisque form. Firing temperature increases strength and makes colors more vivid. Different firing times and temperatures can affect surface characteristics and appearance.
Acrylic Paint
Acrylic paints can be used; however, they are not food-safe. A protective varnish is recommended after acrylic painting. This process does not require firing and is suitable for decorative use only.
Possible Variations
Bisque products made by casting or wheel throwing may show differences in thickness and size. These variations reflect craftsmanship and uniqueness. Different clay types may result in natural tone variations — white clay yields lighter tones, while red clay produces darker, warmer tones.
Product Durability
Products become durable after firing and glazing. Ceramic items are more resistant to external factors but should be handled carefully. Acrylic-painted decorations may wear over time.
Important Notes for Firing & Glazing
Clean and dry before glazing.
Tile and ceramic glazes mature at different temperatures; ensure correct firing temperature.
Varnish after acrylic painting for extra protection.
Test firing is recommended as different firing temperatures may affect bisque color.
