Painting and Glazing
Our Refsan ready-to-use underglaze paints can be safely applied to both tile and ceramic bisque. Glazing enhances both the aesthetic appearance and durability of the product.
Ceramic Products: When glazing ceramic bisque products, ceramic glazes should be used. Ceramic glazes typically mature between 1040°C and 1050°C, providing a smooth surface and extending the lifespan of ceramic products.
Tile Products: When glazing tile bisque products, tile glazes should be used. Tile glazes are fired at approximately 900°C - 920°C, resulting in a fine and elegant surface.
Firing
Our products are carefully fired at 1050°C into bisque form. The firing temperature increases durability and enriches colors. Different firing times and temperatures can affect the surface characteristics and overall appearance.
Acrylic Paint
Acrylic paints can be used for decoration; however, this process is not suitable for food contact. Applying a protective varnish after acrylic painting is recommended. Acrylic painting does not require firing and allows for decorative use, but such paints should not be used on items intended for food contact.
Possible Variations in Products
In bisque products produced by casting or wheel throwing, variations in thickness and size may occur. Casting can result in thin or thick areas depending on the structural characteristics of the product. These variations reflect the uniqueness of each piece and the effects of craftsmanship.
The use of different types of clay may cause natural tone variations. The color of ceramic and tile bisques depends on the type of clay used. For example, white clay produces lighter tones, while red clay results in darker and warmer shades.
Product Durability
Our products gain durability through firing and glazing processes. However, care and usage conditions may vary for each product type. Ceramic products are generally more resistant to external factors but require careful handling. Acrylic-painted decorations may wear over time.
Points to Consider During Firing and Glazing
Products should be cleaned and dried before glazing.
Tile and ceramic glazes mature at different temperatures, so the correct firing temperature must be used.
After acrylic painting, varnishing provides protection against external factors.
Different firing temperatures may affect the color of bisque products; pre-testing is recommended.
